While the PM-15S2 Limited features luxurious, black anodized aluminum casework, the beauty of this extraordinary new component runs more than skin deep. Key design attributes, some first explored in the award winning MA-9S2 monoblock amplifier, lift the sonic integrity of the 15 to a level that belies its approachable price. HDAM-SA3 modules offer high slew rate and low noise operation and contribute to the highly resolved sonic character of the component. A custom-wound torroidal power transformer anchors a high current, regulated power supply that’s been newly tuned for quick response. Twin 20,000 microfarad filter capacitors are custom made for Marantz and provide huge current reserves for enhanced bass control. A current feedback power amplifier delivers 90 watts per channel into 8 ohms and features a DC servo for superior low frequency response. Vinyl enthusiasts will appreciate the fast, sonically neutral qualities of the constant current feedback moving magnet phono stage, as well as the vivid imaging afforded by a digitally controlled analog volume stage that boasts channel to channel accuracy within .5 dB. HDAM-SA2 modules are deployed in a buffer configuration at the CD input for enhanced linearity. A Bi-Mode setting makes it possible to operate two PM-15S2 as mono-integrated amplifiers for total left-right channel isolation while a power amp direct input allows complete integration with a home theater processor at the touch of a button.

The 2-stage amplification concept for main amplifiers or the 3-stage one for integrated amplifiers offers an extremely wide frequency range needed for the high resolution formats like SA-CD and DVD-A. In addition it influences the overall performance in relation to speed and accuracy. The first amplification stage is built into the pre amplifier followed by voltage amplification and the 3rd and final is the power output stage to guarantee high current output driving speakers more vividly and dynamically.

Current Feedback

Current Feedback amplification is a well known, Marantz’ original circuit technology. The Current Feedback amplifier technology fits perfectly with the high requirements set for Super Audio software providing wide-bandwidth, high-speed reproduction. The impedance at the Current Feedback point is limited resulting in a very low phase shift. Marantz receivers and amplifiers equipped with Current Feedback can keep the phase compensation via Negative FeedBack (NFB) to a minimum, resulting in high through-rate, excellent transient response and superb sonic transparency for the full bandwidth. Unlike conventional Voltage Feedback amplification, the Current Feedback amplification makes the power amplifier in-sensitive to difficult loudspeaker loads.

Linear volume control offers minimal cross talk with a very precise volume adjustment over a range from 0dB to 100dB with a gang error less than +/- 0.5dB.


Marantz developed its own discrete circuit boards to replace standard IC's. These HDAM's consists of discrete surface mount components with short mirror image L/R signal paths. Those devices are doing exactly the same thing as the Op-Amps, but outperform the regular IC Op-amps dramatically in terms of the Slew Rate and reduced noise level, resulting in a much more dynamic, accurate and detailed sound. Over the years Marantz developed different types of the HDAM to improve quality and to fit to the special requirements of a product category like CD or amplifier.
